22.05.2018. The two-day seminar on the international standards of broadcasting regulation and new models of broadcasting organized by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat was held at the Yyldyz Hotel in Ashgabat.

OSCE international experts – Anna Kachkaeva (Russia) and Arkady Mayofis (Israel) presented different models of broadcasting, focusing on the respective advantages and challenges of public service, private and commercial television.

Addressing the seminar participants, Ambassador Natalya Drozd, Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat noted that the seminar continued a series of ‘round-table meetings’, organized in the framework of the cooperation with the government of Turkmenistan on the development of the national media legislation. The thematic course has proved itself as an efficient platform to exchange experience and opinions between the international and national experts in the context of improving the national media legislation and the practices of its implementation.

22.05.2018. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held special session of the Government in the Olympic village dedicated to the development of sports. Preparation to sport events of the year as well as number of topical aspects of the state policy was brought up for discussion.

Representative of international organizations, the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, deputy hyakims of the velayats and Ashgabat, directors of the universities, editors of newspapers and magazines, heads of non-governmental and sport organizations, other management level personnel were invited to participate in the extended session of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Having announced the agenda, the Head of the State noted that recently, our country pays great attention to the development of sports. Billions on investments in national currency have been used for modernization of the profile infrastructure. Numerous sport schools and facilities as well as the Olympic village in Ashgabat, which arenas successfully hosted V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, are among the facilities that have been built and still under construction.

Turkmen sportsmen actively perform at international competitions where they win medals including gold ones. This year, Turkmenistan will host important big sport competitions very soon. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare thoroughly to these events, the Head of the State highlighted.

During a special meeting of the Government held in the Olympic Village in Ashgabat, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave instructions on the preparations for the important sports events to be held in the country - the “Amul-Hazar 2018” international motor rally, the 2018 Weightlifting World Championship and the events on occasion of the World Bicycle Day that will be celebrated for the first time on June 3.

In particular, the President of Turkmenistan instructed the relevant officials to ensure the high organizational level of the environmental safety of racing cars.

The proposals on holding the international bicycle racing competitions in Turkmenistan in 2019-2020 and a forum on the cycling movement and its significance for the municipal transport infrastructure under the aegis of the UN were considered during the meeting.

As for the 2018 Weightlifting World Championship that will be held in Ashgabat in October-November, 2018, it is expected that over 2000 athletes, the official representatives and high-ranking guests from more than 100 countries will arrive to Turkmenistan to take part in the sports event. The winners of the Championship will gain the right to participate in the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.

The issues on the participation of the national team of Turkmenistan in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo were discussed during the meeting. The Turkmen leader instructed the National Anti-Doping Agency of Turkmenistan and the National Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry to ensure the efficient doping control at the Weightlifting World Championship in Ashgabat.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov organized a special meeting of the Government to discuss the preparations for the important sports events to be held in the country - the “Amul-Hazar 2018” international motor rally, the 2018 Weightlifting World Championship and the events scheduled for June 3 that the United Nations Organization declared as the World Bicycle Day on the initiative of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the President signed the Decree on the celebration of the World Bicycle Day and gave the relevant instructions on the organization of the events on occasion of this day.

According to the President of Turkmenistan, given people’s numerous requests, the large-scale environmental event – the car free day should be held in the country on June 3.

Minister of Internal Affairs I. Mulikov and Ashgabat Khyakim Sh. Durdylyev were instructed to limit the traffic in the Turkmen capital on June 3 starting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Public transport will be available on that day.

Moreover, the Turkmen leader instructed the relevant officials to attract the local population to practicing bicycle racing and to modernize the existing infrastructure in this sphere.

The Turkmen leader instructed the relevant officials to hold the events on the occasion of this date at the high organizational level.

In particular, it is planned to organize bike rides and bike-a-thons in all regions of the country. The President of Turkmenistan expressed a wish to take part in the events.

The preparatory works for the «Amul-Hazar 2018» international motor rally and 2018 Weightlifting World Championship were discussed during the meeting.
