17.02.2018. The Institute of International Relations of the Foreign Ministry hosted International Conference “Diplomacy of the Silk Road: Triumph of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation” timed to the Day of Diplomatic Personnel of Turkmenistan.

Representative of diplomatic corps of Turkmenistan as well as diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in our country, university lecturers and students took part in the forum.

The speakers highlighted during the plenary session that the Concept of foreign course of neutral Turkmenistan in 2017 – 2023 stipulating the improvement of the role of our state in the world, intensification of beneficial cooperation with different countries and international organizations was developed and is currently implemented under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Slogan of 2018 “Turkmenistan – the Heart of the Great Silk Road” gave impulse to the activation of popularization of large-scale achievements of our country, its richest historical and cultural heritage in the world as well as to the expansion of political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian relations.

It was mentioned that book of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov “Turkmenistan – the Heart of the Great Silk Road” is a fundamental work narrating in details about the civilizations prospered on the territory of modern Turkmenistan, about the sources of the state policy based on the principles of friendship and peace-loving.

17.02.2018. Past week at the auctions of the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan 86 transactions were registered.
For the foreign currency businessmen from the United Arab Emirates bought aviation kerosene manufactured at Turkmenbashi oil refineries complex. For the foreign currency Portland cement, cotton yarn, cotton fibres were also realised. The countries-buyers: Russia, Great Britain, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Turkey and others. The total sum of transactions exceeded 44 million 860 thousand US dollars.
For the manat businessmen from Russia, Great Britain and Pakistan purchased cotton fabric and yarn for a total sum of over 2 million 588 thousand manats.
For the home market local businessmen bought polypropylene (TORC) and cotton fibre for the sum of about 29 million manats.

16.02.2018. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held extended session of the Cabinet of Ministers where priority issues of home and foreign policy have been reviewed. Hyakims of some velayats, cities and etraps, directors of universities, heads of mass media and non-governmental organizations and other leaders have been invited to participate in the session.

Going over to the agenda, the President of Turkmenistan gave floor to Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers M. Babayev. The Vice-premier reported on preparation of the event on occasion of the launch of construction of Afghan part of Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan – India gas line.

Summing up the report, the Head of the State highlighted that creation of multidimensional system of transportation of Turkmen energy resources to the world’s markets, provision of reliability and safety of international supplies are important aspects of energy strategy of our country. This is practically implemented in foreign initiatives of Turkmenistan that are aimed at the formation of new model of global energy security as well as in large-scale international energy projects.

TAPI is one of such projects, Head of the State Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said and gave relative instructions for provision of high organizational level of the events to the Vice-premier.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers D. Amangeldiyev reported on preparation to the start of construction of Turkmenistan – Afghanistan - Pakistan electric line, on the Draft Resolution on compliance with deadline of high quality construction and opening of big industrial and social facilities in 2018.

16.02.2018. The program of cultural events was prepared for the celebrations scheduled for February 23 and 26 in Mary and Lebap velayats on the occasion of the start of the construction the Afghan section of the TAPI gas pipeline, Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan power transmission line, the fiber-optic line along the same route, the opening of Serhetabat-Turgundi railway, the international airport in Lebap velayat and the forthcoming launch of the international rally "Amul-Khazar 2018", cycle race and track and field athletics cross. Deputy Prime Minister Abdiyeva B. told about it at the government meeting.
The leading theme of these celebrations will be the history of the Great Silk Road, which will be reflected in the folklore groups’ performances from all velayats of the country. They will introduce the customs of the Turkmen people hospitality, festive rituals and traditions of preparing national dishes, needlework, sports games and spring field works.
Exhibitions of fine and decorative arts of the Turkmen people, as well as the peoples of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India will be arranged.
In this regard, the Head of the state focused on the cultural component of Turkmenistan's foreign policy strategy, as well as in the formation of public consciousness and ordered all planned events to be held at a high level.

On February 16, 2018, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan there was a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus in Turkmenistan (with residence in Moscow) Mr. Leonidas S. Markides, who arrived in the Turkmen capital to present his credentials.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Ambassador presented copies of his credentials. Then the sides touched upon the current state and prospects of intensifying cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Cyprus. Noting the status of positive neutrality of Turkmenistan and the focus on strengthening peace and stability in the region and the world as a whole, the sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation in various directions.
In this regard, it was noted the need to expand the joint legal base. Noting the focus on strengthening and developing ties in the political and diplomatic sphere, the sides underlined the need for political consultations between foreign ministries of both countries on a regular basis. Touching upon the issues of international interaction, the sides discussed a wide range of issues of expanding cooperation within the framework of international organizations.
During the talks, the parties also showed their interest in the development of cultural and humanitarian interaction, as well as cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and tourism.
