There are over 100 species of fish in Caspian Sea. The most commons are beluga, bream, carp, ram, herring, mullet, pike, zander, perch, carp and sprat.
Sturgeon fish is the most important value of the Caspian sea. 20 percent of the world reserves of sturgeon, also called “red fish”, live in this sea, which is the world's largest inland body of water.
The complex of the Open Joint Stock Company (OJSC) Hazar Balyk was put into operation in Turkmenbashi etrap of Balkan velayat on September 7, 2015. The complex works to increase the volume and range of high-quality fish products to fully saturate the domestic market.
OJSC Hazar Balyk is a member of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
For artificial breeding of sturgeon, black caviar and fish processing in Turkmenistan, the Hazar Balyk complex has been equipped with modern and innovative equipment produced in the USA, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.
The capacity of the complex, with a total area of 6 hectares, is designed to produce 100 tons of sturgeon meat, 2 tons of sturgeon caviar, 170 tons of smoked and other fish products and 10 million pieces of canned food from various types of fish per year.
The company produces tons of cold and hot smoked fish delicacies. The smoking of fish is generally done for the unique taste and flavour imparted by the smoking process. The method also preserves vitamins useful for human health. The company also produces canned products as well as dried, salted and spiced pickled fish.
After processing, fish products are selected by size for subsequent cleansing of bones. Purified fish products are enriched with flavoring vitamins and other elements, then canned. In addition to smoked fish processing plants, fish are also prepared by the method of drying.
