During the meeting Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon discussed the priority issues of Turkmen-Tajik relations. Also, the talks focused on the aspects of collaboration in the energy, transport and communication sectors.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon had a meeting in the Hafeziye Palace in Tehran.
Exchanging the heartfelt greetings, the two leaders focused with satisfaction on the high dynamics of the intergovernmental dialogue based on the age-old traditions of friendship, mutual understanding and confidence between the Turkmen and Tajik that intensively developed today.
During the meeting Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon discussed the priority issues of Turkmen-Tajik relations, particularly in the context of the top level agreements as well as the vast opportunities opened up nowadays for diversification of mutual cooperation. Calling for further expansion of trade and economic partnership built on a long-term basis, the sides underscored a critical role of the Turkmen-Tajik intergovernmental commission, which had intensify significantly the activity in recent years, in this process.
Also, the talks focused on the aspects of collaboration in the energy, transport and communication sectors given the geographical location and the transit potential of the two states.
Emphasizing in the regard that Tajikistan attached considerable significance to strengthening and expanding the fruitful dialogue with Turkmenistan, President Emomali Rahmon welcomed the Turkmen leader’s constructive international initiatives put forward at the sessions of the UN General Assembly and aimed at ensuring global peace and security and promoting sustainable development and positive cooperation at the regional and global level.
Mentioning collaboration in the humanitarian sphere as a priority of interstate relationships, the sides called for further intensification of mutually beneficial contacts in this field that was conditioned by cultural and spiritual ties historically established between the two fraternal nations, the common centuries-old traditions, including the Nowruz bright spring holiday. As is known, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov participated in the Nowruz celebrations, which took place in the Tajik town of Dangar, in the framework of his state visit to the Republic of Tajikistan last year. This event added a new chapter to the history of bilateral relations and became a landmark of the inviolability of Turkmen-Tajik friendship. It was also noted that the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan as well as the participation of Turkmen and Tajik scientists, cultural and art workers in scientific and art forums organized in the two countries directly contributed to fostering the humanitarian dialogue.
The leaders of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan exchanged views on the topical issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest.
Upon concluding the meeting, the leaders of the two states reaffirmed that Turkmenistan and Tajikistan were continuously committed to relations of friendship, brotherhood and fruitful cooperation and expressed the wishes of peace, happiness and prosperity to the Turkmen and Tajik peoples.
